Pontefract Castle is associated with several ghost stories, including the apparition of a mysterious monk reportedly seen walking from the former kitchen area toward the Queen's Tower after closing time. Visitors and staff have also reported unexplained footsteps, voices, and other activity among the castle ruins.

After 5pm, a monk is seen walking from what was the kitchen towards the Queen’s tower. A little, raggedly girl is also thought to be here.
