Prospect House in Mexborough is a Victorian property reportedly dating to 1847 and formerly known as Ash Mount. Paranormal-event operators associate the house with generations of former occupants and describe persistent unexplained activity throughout its rooms and corridors. Reported phenomena include footsteps in empty areas, doors opening and closing on their own, disembodied voices, shadow figures, sudden cold spots, knocks and bangs, and the sensation of being watched. Some investigators have also reported clothing being tugged or the feeling of an unseen hand brushing against them. Paranormal histories of the building connect some of the reported activity with members of the Makin family, who are said to have occupied the property during the mid-nineteenth century, as well as later occupants. The building is now regularly used for organized paranormal investigations and ghost-hunting events.
