Local legend claims the Rio Grande near Las Cruces is haunted by the cries of a grieving woman searching for her drowned children. Witnesses have reported hearing mournful screams and seeing ghostly figures near the river after dark.
The cries of a woman who allegedly drowned her kids in the river can be heard along the river banks. She is supposed to be cursed to wander the banks for eternity searching for her children.
