Reported Haunting
The Riverview Hotel is associated with reports of ghostly apparitions and unexplained activity experienced by guests. Witnesses have described phantom footsteps, mysterious voices, shadow figures, and objects moving without explanation inside the historic hotel. It has become one of St. Marys' haunted landmarks.
Famous folks who have stayed here include author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, Admiral Chester Nimitz and Senator Richard Russell. Room 8 is said to be haunted by a male apparition. At one time during a power outage, the lights in that room mysteriously stayed on.
