THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The historic Robert Bell's General Store has been associated with reports of unexplained activity dating to its Gold Rush-era past. Visitors have described mysterious sounds and ghostly encounters within the old building, believed by some to be connected to former miners or residents of Coloma.
The 1849 brick store building accommodated a large community of gold miners around Sutter’s Mill. Many witnesses have reported hearing the phantom sound of a long-gone bell, which some speculate was once an indicator that a customer had come in.
