Rochester Castle is associated with the legend of Lady Blanche de Warenne, who is said to have died during a medieval siege and whose apparition reportedly wanders the ancient fortress. Visitors have described seeing a ghostly woman in or around the castle, along with other unexplained activity among its ruins.
Lady Blanche de Warenne was killed during a siege in 1264. An arrow intended to kill her husband bounced off his breastplate and struck her instead; she then fell from the keep. Some say that they see the fall repeating itself, others hear disembodied footsteps within the castle.
