THE STORY

Reported Haunting

Originally opened as the Rookwood Hotel in 1912, the building is said to be haunted by former residents. Employees have reported apparitions, cold spots, and unexplained noises.

Rookwood Hotel opened in 1912, but by 1950 it had been divided into apartments. In 2004 the building was bought by a new owner who found a hidden speakeasy from Prohibition days behind a bulletproof door in the basement. That year, when a tour guide went down to shut off the speakeasy’s lights and lock up, he experienced a sort of ghostly time warp. He saw two men in 1920s pinstriped suits sitting at a table.
