THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Rowan Oak in Oxford, Mississippi, the historic home of Nobel Prize-winning author William Faulkner, is famously haunted by the writer's own ghost. Visitors and tour guides frequently report seeing his spectral apparition writing on the office walls or walking the grounds under the cedar trees. The property is also allegedly haunted by Judith Sheegog, a fictional ghost Faulkner invented to entertain his children, whose weeping spirit is said to wander the halls.
Even the name of William Faulkner’s home is an ode to the mythic. Legend has it that Faulkner still haunts the rooms and grounds of Rowan Oak.
