THE STORY

Reported Haunting

Executed prisoner William Hughes and a vanished prison guard are reportedly seen here, while visitors describe unseen touches, slamming doors and distant voices.

Ruthin Gaol is reportedly haunted by William Hughes, the only inmate executed at the prison, whose apparition is associated with the condemned man's cell. Visitors, particularly women, have reported being touched by an unseen presence. Heavy doors are said to slam by themselves, sometimes in sequence. The apparition of a prison guard who reportedly vanished during a shift has also been seen, and visitors describe feeling followed or hearing distant disembodied voices.
