THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The permanently closed Sage Hill Bed & Breakfast in Anamoose, North Dakota—originally built in 1928 as a progressive rural schoolhouse—is allegedly haunted by the spirits of its former students and staff. Guests and workers frequently reported experiencing mischievous poltergeist activity, particularly in the dining room where objects would unexplainably move on their own. Visitors also documented catching glimpses of phantom children wandering the property, alongside the distinct, localized scent of cigar smoke or phantom perfume manifesting in empty hallways.
Most of the reviews about Sage Hill list the word “remote”. This B&B is a renovated schoolhouse. Ghost sightings include: the smell of cigar smoke believed to be that of a former superintendent of the school, black shadows that stream past you and can be glimpsed from the corner of your eye, disappearing items and cold spots.
