THE STORY
Reported Haunting
San Francisco City Hall is associated with reports of unexplained noises and unseen activity after hours, with some ghost lore connecting the phenomena to the building's long and sometimes violent history.
The present San Francisco City Hall was completed in 1915 after the previous building was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and fire. The building later became the scene of one of the city's most infamous political crimes when Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk were assassinated there on November 27, 1978. Paranormal stories describe unexplained noises and other strange activity in otherwise empty areas of the building, sometimes attributed in local lore to spirits connected with its dramatic history.
