THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Shelburne Museum is home to dozens of historic structures, several of which have developed ghostly reputations. Staff and visitors have reported apparitions, footsteps, and unexplained activity among the museum's exhibits.
The museum consists of several historic buildings that contain relics from the past. One of the buildings here, the Dutton House, is said to have more to it than meets the eye. Built in 1872 in Cavendish and relocated to the museum grounds in 1950, the red colonial house’s ghosts must have traveled with it when it was moved. Witnesses have described the apparition of an older man hunkering down upstairs, under the slope of the roof, as well as the sound of a little girl crying.
