THE STORY

Reported Haunting

Shippen Manor in Oxford, New Jersey, is famously rumored to be haunted by a colonial soldier, a young boy in period clothing, and a woman in a blue dress. Museum staff and visitors have reported poltergeist-like activity, including doors opening and closing by themselves, uncatalogued historical artifacts appearing out of nowhere on shelves, and a phantom woman's torso that "whooshes" through the corridors. The location's active paranormal claims were prominently featured on an episode of Syfy’s Ghost Hunters in 2010, where investigators documented similar supernatural occurrences.

Shippen Manor, a historic Georgian mansion built in the 1760s for Dr. William Shippen II and his brother Joseph Shippen II, is the site of some strange happenings. Witnesses report that items appear on shelves that weren’t there before, doors open and close on their own, and ghosts have been afoot. Some have seen a spectral soldier; others a small boy in period costume. A lady in blue with her hair in a bun has been spotted as well.
