THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The former Soldiers National Museum in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania—housed in the historic 1863 Union headquarters and later the National Soldiers Orphans Homestead—is legendary for intense, dark paranormal activity. The most prominent hauntings are attributed to the abusive headmistress Rosa Carmichael, whose malicious spirit is said to still terrorize the building's dungeon-like cellar. Visitors and ghost tour groups exploring the property frequently document hearing the disembodied voices and phantom cries of trapped children, alongside experiencing the chilling physical sensation of small, invisible hands grasping at their clothes.
Rosa Carmichael is said to be the spirit who haunts this museum. According to locals, she operated an orphanage located at this very site during the Civil War era.
