THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Room 305 of the South of the Border Motor Inn has been associated with reports of sudden electrical failures, unexplained noises, strange reactions from animals and ghostlike shapes. Reports of unusual activity in the room began circulating around 1999.
South of the Border is the famous roadside attraction on Interstate 95 at the North Carolina-South Carolina border. Its Motor Inn developed an unusual ghost story centered specifically on Room 305. Reports publicized beginning around 1999 described mysterious electrical failures, unexplained noises, animals behaving strangely and indistinct ghostlike shapes inside or around the room. The accounts remain anecdotal, but the repeated identification of the same motel room has made Room 305 part of South of the Border's lesser-known folklore.
