THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Sperry Chalet in Glacier National Park, Montana, is local folklore's home to several ghostly manifestations documented by paranormal researchers in books like Glacier Ghost Stories. Visitors and backcountry staff staying at the historic 1913 stone lodge have reported encountering a resident poltergeist that leaves behind the sudden, distinct scent of a wet dog indoors. Other persistent legends surrounding the rugged alpine retreat include the fleeting, spectral image of Louis Hill—the Great Northern Railway developer who originally built the chalet—seen silently watching over the property.
This historic chalet was built in 1913, and is haunted by at least three apparitions. The first is of the son of the former owner, who has appeared to guests and staff on various occasions. The second is a poltergeist, who has been know to move objects around and speak to guests. Recently, guests began reporting sighting a man in hiking gear walking through the hallways who vanished around corners. The origin of that particular haunting is as of yet unknown.
