THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The St. Francis Dam collapsed catastrophically in 1928, sending a massive flood through the Santa Clara River Valley and killing hundreds of people. Visitors to the ruins and surrounding area have reported apparitions, unexplained voices, and other eerie phenomena sometimes attributed to victims of one of California's deadliest disasters.
William Mulholland oversaw what would be his last major project be completed in 1926. His career ended 3 years later when the dam collapsed and kill somewhere between 200 and 500 people. A cemetery located somewhere nearby wound up being the burial site for many of the victims; some of them even appear on photograph. Local residents have also reported ghostly activity, one woman claiming that an unseen force was moving a cast iron horse trough around. Sounds of crying have also been heard.
