THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The former St. Joseph's Hospital in Dickinson, North Dakota—now repurposed into St. Joe's Plaza—is widely regarded as one of the most haunted locations in the state. Local folklore is heavily tied to a tragic 1926 incident where six resident nuns became mysteriously ill, resulting in five deaths. Paranormal reports include an elevator that moves down to the morgue by itself, a third-floor patient call button that lights up when unoccupied, and a historically sealed room that nurses once refused to enter.
Employees have reported ghostly activity from many different areas at this hospital. The elevator to the morgue runs up and down by itself; moaning and voices are heard in the cafeteria; and call buttons are activated from empty rooms. Laughing and the sound of running footsteps have been reported in the basement.
