THE STORY

Reported Haunting

St Nicholas Church in Chiswick is associated with ghost stories involving Mary Fauconberg and Frances Rich, both connected to prominent families of the 17th century. Their apparitions are said to linger around the historic church and churchyard, where visitors have reported mysterious female figures and other unexplained activity.

Mary Fauconburg and Frances Rich, the daughter of Oliver Cromwell, are said to haunt this location. After Cromwell’s death, his body was disinterred and beheaded publicly. The daughters are said to have bribed a guard to have his remains placed here, but his body is currently in an unmarked grave. His daughters are said to be seen here at dawn.
