THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Starin Place in Fultonville, New York, a palatial 26-room historic mansion built by shipping magnate and U.S. Congressman John Henry Starin, is rumored to host several restless spirits. Today owned by the Fortroyal Foundation for preservation and the arts, the expansive estate once boasted a model farm, its own zoo, and a massive greenhouse. Visitors and preservationists exploring the property frequently document experiencing intense paranormal activity, including unexplainable disembodied noises echoing through empty halls. Additionally, multiple witnesses have reported catching fleeting glimpses of eerie shadow figures moving independently inside several bedrooms and across the grand grounds.
Starin Place is the mansion and grounds formerly owned by U.S. Representative of New York John Henry Starin (1825–1909), who, from 1848 to 1852 was Fultonville’s postmaster. Folks at the historic museum site describe unexplained noises, movement and shadows around the grounds and in the guests’ and servants’ quarters.
