THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Long-term investigators and museum volunteers report repeated unexplained activity at Strauss Mansion, including disembodied voices, footsteps, moving objects, shadow figures and recorded anomalies. Members of Ghosts on the Coast cite the mansion as one of the few locations they personally feel comfortable describing as haunted after years of investigations.
Built in 1893 for New York merchant Adolph Strauss, the 21-room Queen Anne mansion is now operated by the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society. Its paranormal reputation is supported by unusually extensive firsthand accounts from investigators and museum volunteers who have spent years inside the building. Ghosts on the Coast investigator and Historical Society board member Greg Caggiano has described repeated experiences including disembodied voices, moving shadows, footsteps on empty upper floors, objects moving without apparent cause, a piece of furniture reportedly dragged several feet, and a picture frame that appeared to fly from a wall in front of a large group. Investigators have also reported electronic voice phenomena and unexplained shadow activity captured during investigations. After years of repeated investigations, members of Ghosts on the Coast have identified Strauss Mansion as one of the very few locations they personally feel comfortable describing as haunted.
