THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The Taft Museum of Art occupies one of Cincinnati's oldest homes and has long been associated with reports of paranormal activity. Staff and visitors have described apparitions, unexplained footsteps, and strange sounds believed to be connected to the home's early occupants.

The Taft Museum of Art, built in 1820 by Martin Baum, is said to be haunted by several ghosts. Annie is the most famous, the wife of Charles Phelps Taft, half-brother of President William Howard Taft. They are the ones who donated the building to the city in 1932. Annie wears a long pink gown. Other ghosts are said to walk at night, call people’s names, tap them on the shoulder, and knock things down in the gift shop. A phantom baby’s cries are heard here as well.
