THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Eliza Thompson House is one of Savannah's best-known haunted inns, with guests reporting apparitions, unexplained footsteps, and other unusual activity. Among the most frequently described spirits are a Confederate soldier seen near an upstairs window and a young girl in a white dress who reportedly wanders the property.
This 1847 home belonged to cotton dealer Joe Thompson and his wife, Eliza. The couple had seven children, so when Joe was killed in 1855 when a horse kicked him, Eliza had her hands full. The home is now an inn, and folks who visit have seen a ghostly woman in white and a Confederate soldier’s apparition, and have heard children giggling. Room 132 is purported to be the most active with ghostly goings-on.
