The Fisherwoman of Lake Arcola is a Florida ghost legend involving the apparition of a woman seen near the lake after dark. Witnesses have reported sightings of a ghostly figure near the water along with unexplained sounds and eerie encounters.
Lake Arcola is no more – it dried up decades ago and is now mostly open fields with some water and a few small structures. And that’s what makes it so weird that drivers on North Buckingham Road, which skirts the western edge of what used to be Lake Arcola, regularly report seeing a barefoot woman “fishing” in the area with a cane pole. Some believe she is the ghost of a woman who died in the lake long ago.
