THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Lodge on Lake Lure is associated with reports of ghostly apparitions and unexplained activity experienced by guests. Visitors have described phantom footsteps, strange voices, and mysterious figures throughout the lodge.
The 1937 lodge began as a retreat for highway patrolmen and their families and a memorial to highway patrolman George Penn, who was shot and killed on the job. It was opened to the public in 1990. Rumor has it that the ghost who resides here is none other than George Penn. He has been seen walking around in Room 4 and has been known to steal the toilet paper from Room 2.
