The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum operated from 1864 until 1994 and once housed thousands of psychiatric patients under increasingly overcrowded conditions. Visitors have reported shadow figures, disembodied voices, phantom footsteps, unexplained screams, and apparitions throughout the enormous Gothic complex. Its difficult history has made it one of America's premier paranormal investigation sites.
