West Point has accumulated numerous ghost stories during its long military history. Cadets in the early 1970s reportedly encountered an apparition wearing an antiquated military uniform in a room identified in accounts as Room 4714. Another legend concerns Molly, an Irish servant associated with former superintendent Colonel Sylvanus Thayer. Her spirit is said to haunt Quarters 100, disturbing bedding and moving or borrowing guests' belongings.
