THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Washington Oaks Gardens State Park has legends of ghostly figures and unexplained activity connected to its historic estate. Visitors have reported apparitions, mysterious lights, and eerie sounds after dark.
This area has belonged both to Native Americans and Spanish settlers in its past, and the state park land here was once a plantation with ties to relatives of George Washington. Witnesses have reported some ghostly goings-on here, including strange lights near the plantation home and poltergeist shenanigans in the visitor center.
