THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The arch really does drip because its shell rock retains water. Local superstition says that if one of those drops lands on you, you will be the next person carried through the gate in a hearse.

Cedar Grove Cemetery's coquina entrance is known as the Weeping Arch because the porous stone absorbs moisture and later releases droplets. Local folklore transformed that natural effect into an omen: a person struck by a drop while passing underneath is said to be the next to enter the cemetery in a hearse.
