THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The Well House Tavern is a historic, timber-framed pub dating back to the 16th century, located in the Cathedral Yard of Exeter, Devon. The tavern sits atop ancient Saxon stonework and features the Norman-era St. Martin’s Well preserved in its cellar. It is famous in Devon folklore for a mysterious human skeleton discovered in a cellar alcove during the 1930s, long rumored to be a 14th-century victim of the Black Death or an Anglo-Saxon teenager. Local urban legends claim that anyone who spends the night down with the bones will instantly age 100 years and turn to dust upon stepping into the morning sunlight.
