The Whaley House was built in 1857 on land that had previously been the site of public executions, including that of the infamous Yankee Jim Robinson. Visitors have reported the apparitions of Thomas and Anna Whaley, unexplained footsteps, mysterious voices, and sightings of Yankee Jim himself. It remains one of California's most celebrated haunted houses.
