THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The historic Wirick-Simmons House has been associated with reports of unexplained paranormal activity connected to its many generations of occupants. Visitors have described mysterious footsteps, unusual sounds, and other disturbances within the early-19th-century home.
This historic home is one of the oldest in Monticello, dating to 1831. It is owned by the Jefferson County Historical Society and is open for tours (on request). Two ghostly apparitions of women have appeared here – one in pink, in the upstairs window, and another dressed in yellow was recently seen by guests on a guided tour of the home.
