THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Louisville's Witches' Tree is tied to a local legend involving witches, the destruction of an earlier tree and a curse supposedly followed by a devastating storm.
Louisville folklore says an earlier tree at the intersection of Sixth Street and Park Avenue served as a gathering place for witches or practitioners of magic. According to the legend, removal of the original tree brought a curse upon the city, followed by a powerful storm. A twisted tree growing at the site later became the physical focus of the story.
