THE STORY

Reported Haunting

Wythenshawe Hall is associated with the White Lady or Mary Webb, along with reports of footsteps, sobbing, unexplained sounds, object movement and physical contact.

The sixteenth-century Wythenshawe Hall stands within Wythenshawe Park and has accumulated a substantial paranormal tradition. Its most frequently named spirit is Mary Webb, often described as a sorrowful female apparition or White Lady seen moving through the historic rooms and grounds. Other accounts describe footsteps, crying or sobbing, unexplained noises, objects moving without an obvious cause and occasional sensations of being touched or pushed. The historic hall was badly damaged by an arson attack in 2016 but was restored and later reopened to visitors.
