THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The abandoned Yubetsu mining settlement and hospital have long been regarded as a major Hokkaido haunted location, with stories of figures, voices and oppressive sensations among the ruins.
Yubetsu was once a substantial coal-mining community before the mine closed in 1970 and the settlement rapidly emptied. Numerous industrial and community ruins remain, including the former hospital. The site later developed a strong paranormal reputation. Some local historians dispute sensational stories about deaths supposedly occurring inside the hospital, so its supernatural reputation is presented here as modern folklore and reported experiences rather than established history.
